Steinfurt. At least 26 employees at a medium-sized meat processing company in the Steinfurt district have tested positive for the corona virus, according to the administration.

The district’s crisis team learned of the positive test results Tuesday night around 11 p.m., according to a message from the city of Emsdetten. This is where the focus of infections lies. Contact persons are now determined based on the contact list of the company in question and quarantined. All employees of the meat processor and their families will be examined next Friday.

14 of the 26 infected people live in Emsdetten. The city administration is currently checking if they have children and what school or daycare they go to. “We are doing everything possible to contain the infection and prevent it from spreading to kindergartens and schools,” Mayor Georg Moenikes said in the press release.

There are no more restrictions at the moment

According to the current state, the Steinfurt district does not see the need for further restrictions. The infection process can be “localized very well”. However, the city of Emsdetten has announced that it will increasingly monitor compliance with hygiene and distance regulations with immediate effect, “for example, in restaurants and public spaces,” according to the statement.

Since July, all company employees in Emsdetten have been tested for the corona virus at company costs twice a week. There, 15,000 turkeys will be cut in the next few days under strict hygiene conditions. However, until further notice, no new meat will be delivered. As a result, operations at the affected company will expire at the end of the week, the Emsdetten city administration announced.
