meIn Germany, the number of known infections is around 922 to 272,337, according to data on the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) website. The death toll remains unchanged at 9386. Figures reported on Monday morning are typically comparatively low because not all health authorities report data over the weekend.
The number of new infections reported had peaked for nearly five months over the weekend. The Robert Koch Institute reported 2,297 new cases on Saturday morning, which were sent to authorities within 24 hours. On Sunday the value was 1,345 new infections. In its situation report on Sunday, the RKI spoke of a “further increase in broadcasts in the population.”
Furthermore, the RKI writes: “The number of deaths among reported Covid-19 cases is currently low.” This is mainly due to the fact that an infection was recently detected in a relatively large number of youngsters. Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) wrote on Twitter on Saturday: “Currently, our health system can handle the situation well, but the dynamics across Europe are concerned.”
The percentage of infected people among the elderly is increasing slightly
However, according to the RKI, the proportion of infected people in the older population is increasing slightly today. If this trend continues, hopefully more people will come to the hospital again and die too. Older people are considered to be more susceptible to a severe course of Covid-19.
The peak of new infections reported daily was over 6,000 in late March / early April. Then the number tended to decrease and rose again in July. In August, the number of cases was just over 2000 (2034). The number of new infections found also depends on how many people get tested.
The number of views, or R-value for short, was 1.22 (previous day: 1.27) according to RKI estimates in Germany according to Sonntag’s management report. This means that one infected person infects slightly more than one other person on average. The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier.
Additionally, the RKI gives a seven-day R on its current status report. The value refers to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value was 1.17 (previous day: 1.24). It shows the infection process for eight to 16 days.
