Bundesliga: Health Minister Huml rebukes Bayern Munich leadership

Bavarian Health Minister Melanie Huml has reprimanded the top leaders of FC Bayern for their behavior in the opening match of the Bundesliga. According to the CSU politician, it would have been “wiser for the Munich leaders if they had not sat so close together, because there was enough space,” she told the German press agency. Previously, Bayern leaders were irritated by the fact that, like representatives of FC Schalke 04, they sat in the official match box on Friday night without distance or mouth protection.

Bayern board member Oliver Kahn told ZDF that “the Bavarian ordinance was complied with, allowing exactly that.” There were no guidelines. Minister Huml said that the Bavarian Infection Protection Measures Ordinance allows ten people to sit together in a group, especially in restaurants. “But according to the ordinance, a minimum distance of 1.5 meters is generally provided for sporting events nationwide,” Huml added.

For this reason, the ministry was surprised “with respect to the role of role model” that Bayern executives did not think about distance or mask. Huml once again referred to the increase in the number of corona infections in Munich. For this reason, the game had to be played again in front of empty stands. “Generally speaking, the following applies to Corona anyway: Keep your distance whenever possible. Wear masks where necessary,” Huml said.

SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach also criticized the FC Bayern executive floor. “Children should wear masks in class. FC Bayern coaches enjoy football and obviously they don’t care that they are not a role model for anyone. No one can be proud of that.” Lauterbach tweeted to a photo of the Munich officials around President Herbert Hainer and Honorary President Uli Hoeneß.
