Firefighters extinguish a burning house on Buchenstrasse in the Leipziger Vorstadt district of Dresden. One person was injured.

Dresden – A house has been burning on Buchenstrasse in Dresden’s Leipziger Vorstadt district since early Saturday morning. Several comrades are on duty.

According to the fire and disaster control office, the fire broke out around 5:30 a.m.

Thick smoke rose from the windows of an apartment as the companions of eight combatants arrived on the scene.

“Even before emergency services could place a ladder, a man was saved by jumping into the open air,” said spokesman Michael Klahre. “The person received immediate emergency medical attention and was transferred to a hospital.”

Rescuers evacuated the building and residents were housed in a DVB bus. Firefighters found no other people inside.

Later, the flames spread to the roof and caused a fire on the roof.

As announced by the fire department, 92 colleagues are on duty. Currently (at 8am) it has not yet been completed and can continue for several hours.

Residents of the Buchenstrasse / Hechtstrasse area are kindly requested to keep windows and doors closed.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
