A fire department spokesman said Friday afternoon. Nobody was hurt. About 60 emergency services extinguished most of the fire, but post-extinguishment work could take hours, the spokesperson said.
Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to the nearby rail line. The Dolomitenstrasse is currently closed between Maximilianstrasse and Mühlenstrasse.
On social media, many users shared images of the smoke cloud that could be seen from afar. The fire department claims to have received numerous calls. According to the spokesman, the fire brigade even informed Tegel airport. Air traffic was not restricted by smoke, as confirmed by an airport spokeswoman.
The background to the fire is not yet clear. According to their own statements, the police were initially unaware of a possible cause.
