In downtown Mannheim, around 30 to 40 people had a major fight Wednesday night. The police suspect that conflicts in the criminal environment are the trigger for the dispute.
Police received numerous emergency calls Wednesday night. When the officers arrived at the market, the arguing crowd immediately dissolved. According to the police, those involved fled in all directions.
Eight people involved were provisionally detained
Officials provided eight people at the scene. They were temporarily detained and subjected to identification services. Now they are loose again. They have yet to comment on Wednesday night’s events.
Police said three people were injured in the fight. Police seized a telescopic baton, a stun gun, a baseball bat and an irritant gas pistol.
Suspicion of conflicts in the criminal environment
The exact background to the fight is unclear and is being determined. There is a suspicion of a serious disturbance of public order. Officials got traces of the crime scene and the people arrested that night. Video recordings from the market are also currently being evaluated.
How many people were involved in the dispute has not yet been determined, according to police. However, it is clear that most of those involved do not live in Mannheim. Based on current knowledge, a dispute in the criminal milieu could have triggered the conflict.
