Warning day: the head of the Federal Civil Protection Office, Christoph Unger, will apparently be replaced

Now it is known: The fault warning day has consequences for the personnel. The President of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (BBK) in Bonn, Christoph Unger, must be replaced. The dpa news agency learned of this from the Union faction. After the breakdowns, there were also criticisms of the authority. The RBB had previously reported on this.

The Secretary of State for the Interior, Stephan Mayer (CSU), said on Wednesday in the Bundestag’s Committee on the Interior when asked if Unger was still the head of the authority, that he did not want to comment on personnel matters in this group. The dpa learned this from the participants in the private meeting.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior described the test alarm as “failed”. The reason was a technical problem. “The processes are now being processed in a comprehensive manner,” the ministry announced.

Unger blamed multiple control centers for the fact that warning apps on cellphones were not working. “You did not comply with the agreements,” he said. It was agreed that the Federal Office would operate the applications only from Bonn. Instead, around 30 other warning messages were issued around the same time. “The system couldn’t cope with that,” Unger said. The deficits would have to be corrected by the next warning day in September 2021. Unger has led the Federal Office since its founding in 2004.
