That will change starting Tuesday for travelers returning home.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn has decided on a new approach for returning travelers. More regulations will be reviewed at the end of the month.

If you are returning to Germany from a region that is not classified as a corona risk area, you can no longer take a free trial. The corresponding regulation comes into force on Tuesday, as announced on Monday in Berlin by the Federal Minister of Health, Jens Spahn (CDU). However, for those arriving from risk areas, “for the time being, the mandatory test and quarantine requirement until the test result is negative” still applies.

The rules will be revised at the end of September

Quarantine rules for returnees from risk areas should be reviewed as decided before the end of the month, Spahn added. In light of the increased number of infections among returning travelers, the federal government introduced mandatory testing for travelers from risky areas. For returnees from other countries there were also free but voluntary tests until Monday.

“The pandemic is forcing us to constantly adapt our strategy to the dynamic situation,” Spahn said. By vacation time, it was important to screen all travelers for the corona virus as much as possible. “Looking ahead to fall and winter, we are now refocusing testing more on the domestic market.”
