Garmisch-Partenkirchen: Corona super spreader paralyzes nightlife

He was corona positive, suffered from symptoms, and hung out in bars in a highly contagious way. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, an American (26) caused a significant wave of corona infections. Now the district is reacting with cuts.

On Friday alone, 33 people tested positive. Most can be traced back to the young woman, said BILD district spokesman Stephan Scharf. “Because despite the symptoms, she thought she had to have fun.”

The cases catapult the so-called 7-day incidence (cases per 100,000 inhabitants in a week) in the district above the critical mark of 50. According to the authorities, the current value is 54.

The American was staying at the “Edelweiss Lodge”, a hotel owned by the US Army. There alone it infected 23 other people, according to Scharf.

At least Tuesday night, the super spreader passed through bars (including the “Peaches” cocktail bar) and infected other people. However, there are also indications that he was on a pub tour Monday, district spokesman Scharf said. Maybe he was still in bars on Wednesday.

The problem: the contacts would be very difficult to trace because she had been in many places. The district office expects “numerous follow-up infections.”
