During an apartment search in Dortmund, investigators found a man’s cache of weapons. “We were surprised by how many things we found,” a police spokeswoman said.

The investigation began with a reference to a weapon that the 68-year-old had given to someone else. The district court issued a search warrant, and police found weapons, gun parts, suspicious chemicals and a mine in the man’s rooms on Wednesday.

Flown in a field

Police said it had flown in a controlled manner in a field Thursday night. Then, the specialists of the fire department and the State Criminal Police found several kilograms of highly explosive TNT explosives, which had also been rendered harmless. The spokeswoman did not specify where these controlled demolitions were carried out. “We don’t want to attract viewers or endanger anyone.”

Police and prosecutors did not provide information on the 68-year-old man. It is not yet clear why he collected the weapons. According to the current status, the suspect is being investigated for alleged violations of the Arms Law.
