The number of coronavirus infections in France continues to rise: almost 10,000 new cases in one day. The French government is advising on new measures to contain the pandemic.

In France, the number of new registered coronavirus infections has reached a new record. In 24 hours, 9,843 new cases of Covid-19 were registered on Thursday, the AFP news agency reported, citing the Ministry of Health.

This is the highest number in France since the pandemic began. With around 67 million inhabitants, France is one of the countries in Europe most affected by Corona. The previous high was reported in late March with around 7,500 new cases registered in one day. However, as in many countries, the number of tests has increased enormously.

Debate on new measures

Meanwhile, the French government wants to discuss more measures to contain the pandemic. The Scientific Advisory Board urged the government to act. Many doctors fear that intensive care units will be overloaded in the fall, such as March.

Currently, large gatherings are prohibited. In some cities, masks are mandatory in public places and even on the streets. The strictest way to contain the virus is exit restrictions, as happened in France between March and May.

Younger adults with infections

As in other European countries, more and more young adults in France are becoming infected with Sars-CoV-2, according to information from the authorities, mainly during celebrations and holiday trips.

The Île-de-France metropolitan area with the capital Paris and the Côte d’Azur region are particularly high-risk areas.
