Wing technology: Candela Seven electric boat as wave flyer

It looks like the ship is almost flying over the waves. The technology behind it: A Swedish startup outfitted the sports boat with wings. At the push of a button, the carbon fiber helmet can be lifted out of the water with the help of so-called sheeting, significantly reducing displacement and friction resistance. This allows the ship to travel at around 55 kilometers per hour, although it is powered by a 55-kilowatt electric motor instead of a conventional combustion engine.

Christian Vogel, “Candela Seven”
“The advantage is clear. Don’t make waves, so don’t rock it or shake it.”

The technique called “hydrofoil” has already been tried in the past. With surfboards or here with a jet ski. Sailing yachts and racing boats also use wings. The Swedish developers want to help the electric propulsion of the boats in the jumps.

Until now, electric boats have often had to struggle with short range or insufficient speed due to heavy batteries. The wing technology now ensures speed and a battery life of 90 kilometers, according to the manufacturer. However, there is a condition. Cost per boat: around 245,000 euros.
