The forest railway line between Gotteszell and Viechtach in the Regen district will not be closed at the moment. This was announced by Bavarian Transport Minister Kerstin Schreyer (CSU) at the Regen district office. There had been a break in communication beforehand, for which the minister in Regen expressly apologized.
As long as the study is running, the train will run too
The study of the network will continue and that is how long the forest railway will run on the 25-kilometer route, he said. On Monday, the minister could not specify a specific time when the study will be completed and when the 1,000 passengers per day should be reached.
The Regen district is working with neighboring districts on a local transportation concept. Bus and rail in the region must be more closely related to meet the 1000 criteria. Schreyer emphasized that the goal remains for an average of 1,000 passengers to use the Viechtach-Gotteszell rail line every day, or to reach 1,000 passengers per kilometer, this corresponds to almost 1,400 people per day. Only then is regular operation possible. The criteria will not be affected. After experiencing the engagement on the spot, the minister was confident.
Disruption of communication will have consequences
The Minister of Transport has expressly apologized for “glaring errors in communication.” The way in which the train’s departure had been communicated two weeks ago, that is, only through a press release and without preliminary discussions with the affected region, was not in order. She made the wrong assumptions and was misinformed at her ministry. That too will have consequences, he said. The district administrator Rita Röhrl (SPD) accepted the apology. I was completely surprised by the final end of the railway line from 2021. The reason given was the low number of passengers.
Hundreds demonstrate by the railway line
Transport Minister Schreyer met the CSU district parliamentary group in the evening in a building on Regener Stadtplatz. The local CSU also requires that the rail line be preserved. Around 300 to 400 people demonstrated in front of the building for the maintenance of the railway line. With banners saying, for example, “We need the railway” or “We need kunft train” and whistling they gave air to their dissatisfaction with the decision of the ministry announced two weeks ago to stop the test in autumn 2021.
