In the British city of Birmingham an incident occurred overnight in which several people were injured by stab wounds. A message from the local police said that around 0.30 am a first attack was reported in the city center. A short time later, reports of further attacks were received in the immediate vicinity.
“At the moment we cannot say how many people have been injured or how serious the injuries are,” police said. Emergency paramedics are on site to provide medical attention to the injured.
The police classified the incident as a “major incident”, that is, a serious incident, and advised residents to avoid the downtown district. Some streets have also been closed. But nothing can be said about the background. “At this early time, any speculation would be inappropriate,” the statement said.
