Frenchman Nans Peters won the first Pyrenees stage of the 107 Tour de France. The Team AG2R rider won the eighth section after 141 kilometers from Cazères-sur-Garonne to Loudenvielle ahead of Latvian Toms Skujins and Spaniard Carlos Verona. Peters escaped along with twelve other drivers shortly after the start.

Buchmann loses a minute

The top favorites reached the finish line more than six minutes ago. The yellow jersey was successfully defended by Britain’s Adam Yates from Slovenian Primoz Roglic, who is three seconds behind. In the fourth of last year, Emanuel Buchmann lost more than a minute to his rivals. France’s hopeful Thibaut Pinot, who crossed the finish line far behind, said goodbye to the top favorites.

The second climbing route in the Pyrenees continues on Sunday. Although the mountains of the ninth section, more than 153 kilometers from Pau to Laruns, are not that high, they are all steeper. The Col de Marie Blanque in particular, an ascent in the first category, has an average slope of twelve percent in the last four kilometers. But there are still 18 kilometers to go.
