The Düsseldorf prosecutor has brought charges against Christoph Metzelder. The former soccer player is apparently accused of possessing recordings of sexual abuse of minors. The court will now decide on the opening of the procedure.

Charges have been brought against former DFB national player Christoph Metzelder. A spokeswoman for the Düsseldorf district court confirmed this to the dpa news agency on Thursday. The accusation has been received. “The file is with us. The procedure is with us now.” The court spokeswoman did not want to reveal what the indictment is about. The district court must now decide on the opening of the proceedings.

The “Express” claims to have learned from legal circles that Metzelder is accused of distributing and possessing child pornographic material. That was also reported by “Bild”. When asked by the WDR, the Düsseldorf prosecutor did not want to confirm or deny the accusation, but announced a press release for this Friday.

The Hamburg prosecutor’s office had already confirmed in September 2019 that they had launched investigations against Metzelder, 39. As a result, search warrants were executed at the private facilities of former Borussia Dortmund professionals, Real Madrid and Schalke 04. Metzelder himself is taking legal action against the allegations.
