Prosecutor investigates ex-footballer Metzelder
According to the local court, the Düsseldorf prosecutor filed charges against former national footballer Christoph Metzelder on Thursday. The charge is supposed to be the distribution of child pornographic material. The Düsseldorf prosecutor’s office could not be reached for an opinion.
Incriminating material on the former footballer’s cell phone
According to the newspaper “Bild”, among others, the investigation is supposed to be child pornography files from the cell phone of the former Bundesliga player of Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04. The accusation had been received, confirmed on Thursday a spokeswoman for the district court of Düsseldorf. “The file is with us. The process is now with us,” the dpa quotes the spokesperson.
In 2019, the 39-year-old’s house in Düsseldorf was searched. The Hamburg prosecutor’s office had already confirmed in September 2019 that they had launched investigations against Metzelder. In mid-August, the legal committee of the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament also took up the case. The presumption of innocence applies up to a possible conviction.
