At Sassnitz on Rügen, the Flensburger Förde-Reederei’s (FRS) new high-speed catamaran docked for the first time on Wednesday. In April, the Swedish shipping company Stena Line discontinued the traditional royal line after 111 years. Now FRS has ensured that tourists and vacationers can return to Sweden from September 17th.
New ferry from Sweden to Ystad before the start
Nordmagazin – 02.09.2020 19:30 h.
From mid-September there will be a ferry connection from Sassnitz on Rügen to Sweden. The new high-speed ferry even makes the route to Ystad in just two and a half hours.
Crossing in record time
However, compared to the previous connection, there are changes: the ship no longer goes to Trelleborg, but to Ystad. Also, rail cars can no longer be transported. The trip only takes two and a half hours. The new line will be the fastest ferry connection between Germany and Sweden. The ship accommodates a total of almost 700 passengers and more than 200 cars.
Land under construction with 800,000 euros
The operators are mainly dependent on tourists who want to go directly to the southern Swedish holiday areas. The state contributed around 800,000 euros to the cost of purchasing the fast ferry and converting the port facilities. The works on the new access ramps should be completed in a few days. According to the schedule, the new ferry Sassnitz to Sweden will depart for Ystad for the first time on September 17.
