The protests erupted after 29-year-old African American Jacob Blake was seriously injured in a police raid. A video showed a police officer initially following Blake around a car with a gun in hand. The president had repeatedly condemned the violence by suspected left-wing radicals, but described the video of the Blake shooting as “a bad sight.”
