During mowing work in Ortenberg, Hesse, a young crocodile got scared at the edge of a stream. It is unclear how it got there. Now the police are looking for the animal.
A crocodile has been discovered in the Wetterau district in Hesse – the meter-long young animal was seen in a stream in Ortenberg. But there is no danger to people from him, a police spokeswoman said. However, farmers and ranchers should be vigilant in this area.
It is also recommended to keep dogs on a leash when walking in this area. It is not yet clear how the animal arrives. Various media had previously reported on the issue. Police and the city are now asking to report more sightings. Observers must monitor the animal from a distance until regulatory authorities or police arrive.
According to the city, a citizen had scared the animal last week while cutting it, saw it and photographed it. A zoological assessor had confirmed the authenticity of the crocodile. It is believed to be hiding in the area of a stream between the Ortenberg districts of Bergheim and Bleichenbach.
