Tonight at around 6.40pm, a Deutsche Bahn AG freight train derailed at Niederlahnstein station. Several biodiesel tanker cars jumped off the tracks. The Federal Police and the State Police have cordoned off the scene of the accident. The Niederlahnstein fire brigade and the surrounding volunteer fire brigades are in action. The Niederlahnstein train station is currently completely closed. Fortunately, no one was injured. The reason why freight train cars traveling from Rotterdam to Basel jumped off the tracks in the station area remains under investigation.
Trier Federal Police took over the final investigation.
