It’s all about racism and police violence – there have been protests in Portland for weeks, and supporters and opponents of the US President Trump showdown. Now a person has been shot on the sidelines of the demonstrations.

A man was shot and killed Saturday night during demonstrations in the city of Portland, Oregon. The incident took place on the sidelines of demonstrations by supporters and opponents of US President Donald Trump, local media reported. According to estimates, about 2,500 Trump supporters moved through the city with several hundred cars. The protesters opposed them. This provoked clashes with left-wing groups.

The exact course of events was initially unclear. The dead are said to be Trump supporters. Police did not provide any details about his identity and did not initially comment on who should have shot. “Portland officers heard gunfire from the Southeast 3rd Avenue and Southwest Alder Street areas. They responded and located a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. Paramedics responded and found the victim dead,” he said. He is being investigated for murder.

Demonstrations against racism and police violence

Since the death of black George Floyd in a brutal police operation in Minneapolis in late May, there have been protests in Portland. There are Black Lives Matter rallies and counter-demonstrations almost every day. Trump sent federal police officers to Portland to contain the protests.

In other American cities, too, people have taken to the streets for weeks to protest police violence against blacks. This calls increasingly right-wing groups to the scene.

Two people died Wednesday night in the city of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Trump wants to travel to Kenosha himself on Tuesday. A White House spokesman said he would meet with security authorities there and discuss the damage after the riots in recent days.
