Coronavirus in Wuhan: does it test eleven million inhabitants? Unrealistic

reThe announcement sounded as incredible as it was impossible: the city of Wuhan, the former epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, plans to screen all of its residents for the virus in the next ten days. Corresponding media reports had circulated Tuesday.

The central Chinese city of Wuhan has eleven million inhabitants, more than New York, Los Angeles or Tokyo. The reason for the massive test was six infections in a residential building in northwest Wuhan. Eleven million tests for six infections.

There is also a name for this campaign: it is called the “10-day fight.” The city commissioned its 13 counties to develop plans for nucleic acid testing. These tests can detect the genetic code of the virus in the blood.

It is still unclear how exactly the “10 day fight” should be fought or even won. There are already doubts about whether Wuhan is equipped for this fight.
