According to a Johns Hopkins University statement, there are now more than 1.3 million confirmed crown infections and more than 80,000 deaths in the United States. Leading immunologist and adviser to the United States government, Anthony Fauci, believes that the actual number of deaths may be even higher. He said this Tuesday at a video hearing in the United States Senate. There may have been people who died at home from the effects of a crown infection without this being reflected in official statistics.
The crown pandemic is not under control in many parts of the United States. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, continues to promote the opening of the economy. He encourages protests in states that he believes protective measures are not being scaled down fast enough. Many states do not meet the criteria set out in the Trump guidelines for reopening.
It is impossible for the virus to simply disappear
Fauci warned against a hasty return to normality. “That could have really serious consequences.” The federal government has carefully drafted guidelines for the gradual reopening of parts of public life in the states. If individual steps are skipped and restrictions are relaxed prematurely, further outbreaks may occur.
Fauci also warned that a second wave might come in the fall. Hope that testing capabilities and the like can be used to respond better. Fauci also emphasized that the virus would not simply disappear. Trump had stated this multiple times at the start of the pandemic.
As a precaution, Fauci was quarantined due to the infection of a high-ranking White House employee and testified on video before the Senate. Other participants in the audience were also remotely connected.
