“It’s your right”: Kretschmann is calm about Corona’s protests

Thousands of people in Germany are protesting against the current crown measures. Prime Minister Kretschmann does not think that is a bad thing. You can’t expect everyone to agree, says the green politician.

Baden-Württemberg Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann von den Grünen has reacted calmly to mounting protests against state regulations to combat the crown virus. That must support freedom of expression. “We are not doing anything wrong. But you cannot expect everyone in a democracy to agree,” Kretschmann said of the ZDF “Berlin direct” program. “It is your right to protest.”

In the Corona crisis, politics follows the advice of scientists. The restrictions would be loosened step by step, but the danger was not yet over. Everyone should continue to be very careful. Kretschmann also attributed the protests to the success of the measures. “This is called the so-called precautionary paradox: insofar as what you do is also effective, insofar as the idea that you should follow these acute measures simply disappears because they have already worked.”

In view of mounting protests against state requirements, SPD Federal Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht defended the restriction of fundamental rights in the fight against Cororavirus. At the same time, he called for greater justification for the need to make decisions.

“I think it is a task that we have to do even more to make clear why certain restrictions are still there,” Lambrecht said in the ARD “Berlin Report”. It is not about depriving people of liberty, but protecting health and life, “and not carelessly wasting what we have achieved.” You have to make this clear to people.

Despite the relaxation, thousands of people took to the streets in many German cities over the weekend to protest the restrictions. According to the police, around 5,000 people gathered at Cannstatter Wasen in Stuttgart on Saturday alone.
