NAfter the attacks on Turkey-born owners in Waldkraiburg in Bavaria, a 25-year-old man is in pre-trial detention on suspicion of crime. The man had been arrested at the Mühldorf am Inn train station on Friday night. Meanwhile, an arrest warrant was issued, a spokesman for the Central Office to Combat Extremism and Terrorism (ZET) at the Munich Attorney General’s Office on Saturday night.
According to the police, the man had not been in possession of a ticket and had “explosives” in his luggage. He was suspicious in connection with the Waldkraiburg investigation, police said Saturday. The newspaper “Bild” had previously reported. Police announced a press conference in Rosenheim on Sunday morning.
“While checking his luggage, materials were found that could be used to produce explosives,” said a police spokesman. Initially, the police did not provide further information on the man’s identity. “The investigation is currently going in all directions.”
After the man’s arrest, investigators from the State Criminal Police Office searched two houses in Waldkraiburg and Garching an der Alz. “There were signs of dangerous objects.” As a precaution, some residents had to temporarily abandon their homes.
Since April, one or more unknown persons in Waldkraiburg (Mühldorf am Inn district) have carried out four attacks against companies of Turkish origin. The stones flew into the windows of a cafeteria, a restaurant and a hairdressing salon. A Turkish greengrocer’s shop caught fire. Six people were injured in the worst attack on the night of April 27.
According to information from investigative circles, therefore, they are investigating, inter alia, property damage, arson and attempted murder. The police had not ruled out an extremist background to the events.
