Leon Draisaitl mourns his teammate Colby Cave: “He was a super boy”

Colby Cave, the Edmonton Oilers forward, died Saturday of complications from a brain hemorrhage at the age of 25. Teammate Leon Draisaitl and the entire NHL mourn the loss of a “warm and generous person.”

German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl was deeply affected by the death of his teammate Colby Cave of the Edmonton Oilers.

“We are all having a difficult time with Colby and his family. He was a super kid who came into the room with a smile every day. We will all miss him very much,” Draisaitl told SID.

Cave, barely older than Draisaitl (24), died Saturday of just 25 years of the consequences of a cerebral hemorrhage. This was announced by his family and the Oilers on Saturday. Cave’s death was not only a source of dismay for Draisaitl.

“He was a wonderful hockey player with a bright future, but he was an even better person,” said Wayne Gretzky, an Edmonton legend.

Colby Cave: Brain Hemorrhage After Emergency Surgery

League boss Gary Bettmann said: “Colby Cave has been a warm and generous person who was loved by anyone who was lucky enough to meet him.”

Striker Cave had complained of a headache Tuesday night and had been transferred to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.

After an emergency operation to remove a colloid cyst that was putting pressure on his brain, Cave had suffered an artificial coma due to bleeding in the brain.

Cave, born in North Battleford / Canada, scored a goal for the Oilers in eleven games this season. Overall, he scored four goals and five assists in 67 NHL games with the Boston Bruins and Oilers in his career. (afp / fte)
