Solingen After the violent death of five children in Solingen, residents expressed their grief with a minute of silence. The city opens a donation account for the funeral.
A city spokesman said Saturday that numerous people willing to donate had reported on social media.
The mother is said to first drug her children aged one to eight and then suffocate, as researchers suspect. Only the sixth child survived, her eleven-year-old son. Now she is with her grandmother in Mönchengladbach. The youth welfare offices in Solingen and Mönchengladbach are in close cooperation on how you can be cared for and supported psychologically, the city spokesman said.
After the crime, the mother threw herself in front of a train. She was seriously injured and initially could not be questioned. There was no new information about her condition from the prosecutor or the police until noon on Saturday.

Solingen Mayor Tim Kurzbach promised the schools of the murdered children and the surviving child the support of the school psychology service. On Saturday night, some 800 people responded to a call from the Hasseldelle district to observe the dead children with a minute of silence. Mayor Kurzbach was among them.
North Rhine-Westphalia state victim protection officer Elisabeth Auchter-Mainz said she was under the impression that the child and grandmother were well cared for, also by emergency chaplains. There are many unanswered questions about the future, but first the boy and her grandmother needed time. “In such a situation, people need time, and this time should be given to the child and his grandmother.”
A judge has issued an arrest warrant for the mother on suspicion of murder. Investigators suspected on Friday that the single mother of six children committed the act in a state of emotional overload after separating from her husband. The marriage broke up, police and prosecutors reported. Before the crime, the woman had been separated from her last husband, the father of four of her children, for a year. She is the only suspect.
The family was already known to the city’s youth welfare office before the crime. “The family received the necessary support from the city of Solingen. The youth welfare office has also submitted possible offers of assistance, ”the city announced without giving details.
