800 Cologne residents did not know about their coronavirus infection

Hundreds of Cologne residents had tested positive for the corona virus, but were initially unaware of the test result. The authorities are reaching their limits with contact tracing.

In Cologne, according to “Die Welt” on Friday, 800 citizens were sometimes unaware of their corona infection. Until now, it has not been possible to inform these people about their positive result, Harald Rau, head of social affairs in Cologne, told the newspaper.

Because they knew nothing about their infection, some of those affected probably continued with their daily lives rather than going into quarantine. Health department employees should contact individuals who test positive individually.

“Don’t come later”

The health department is rounding up employees from other city authorities, “but given the large number of infections, we can no longer keep up,” Rau said.

A city spokeswoman said a few hours later Friday that the backlog of information had already been partially recovered by assigning another 90 workers to follow up on contacts.
