meA 500 kilogram bomb from World War II was found in the Gallus district of Frankfurt while working on a construction shaft. Following an investigation by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service, the explosive device is expected to be deactivated this Sunday (December 6), as announced by the city’s fire department on Thursday.

The fire department released a map showing the interim evacuation area. It is a large area around Friedrich-Ebert-Siedlung, stretching from Frankenallee to Main. To the west, the area is bounded by Autobahn 5.

Based on population registry statistics, the fire department estimates that around 12,300 residents could be affected. In addition, there are nursing homes, district heating lines and substations, as well as central Deutsche Bahn facilities in the Gallus district area. Authorities want to announce more details this Friday.
