Pennsylvania Republicans turn to the United States Supreme Court. They want the court to order election officials not to count postal ballots received after Election Day, as NBC reports. “The vote in Pennsylvania may well determine the next president of the United States,” the party said in its urgent motion. Although election officials had already been instructed to separate those ballots from the others, it was unclear whether all counties followed this pattern, the politicians said.
Republicans said the state Supreme Court did not have the power to extend the vote-by-mail period, so votes cast during the extended period should not be counted. They asked the Supreme Court to order all counties to keep late ballots separate and not count them. Otherwise, it may not be possible to remove these ballots from the count.
