2020 U.S. election: Joe Biden still needs a state to win

The first polling stations in the United States closed more than 24 hours ago, but it is not yet clear who will rule the country as president in the future. Results are not yet available in all states. However, Democratic challenger Joe Biden was sure.

“We believe we will be the winners when the vote count is over,” said Biden in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. “It is clear that we will win enough states to get 270 electoral votes.” But it is still too early to announce a victory, said the challenger, even if he really is close to the goal.

After the democratic politician was long ago, he is now assigned to 264 electorates (read here the criteria by which we count the electorate). While Donald Trump claimed election victory hours ago, Biden now only needs one state to win the election. The next decision that night is expected in Georgia.

The results of two key states recently contributed to the decisive turning point in the race for the White House. In both Michigan and Wisconsin, Biden narrowly prevailed against Donald Trump, who is desperately trying to take legal action against the charges (follow all developments on the live gauge).

Does Georgia make the decision?

  • In Wisconsin only 20,000 votes separate Biden and Trump. Biden got 49.4 percent of the vote there, Trump got 48.4 percent. Wisconsin has 10 electoral votes in Electoral College. Since the lead is less than one percentage point in Wisconsin, a recount can be requested. Trump’s team announced that it would.

  • Even the fought Michigan Biden could decide for himself. He leads there with 49.8 percent, just ahead of Trump (48.6 percent), but according to CNN they can’t catch him anymore. NBC and Fox News also announced Biden as the winner in Michigan. Trump’s campaign team has filed a lawsuit in the state to stop the vote counting. The reason given was that there were not enough opportunities to monitor the count.

  • In Georgia, the choice could be decided: it is still being counted there. Biden is currently a few tens of thousands of votes behind Trump. However, experts believe it is possible for the Democrat to change the state. Officials also expected results from other counties by 9 p.m. local time (3 a.m. German time), including Fulton County with the Democratic metropolis of Atlanta. Georgia has 16 voters. Again, a lawsuit from Trump’s team to pause the count is pending.

  • Also in Pennsylvania Trumps employees are trying to suspend vote counting in this way. Trump’s group also wanted to join a pending lawsuit before the Supreme Court to rule on the legality of late-arriving postal ballots, with Trump’s lead in Pennsylvania dwindling to around 320,000 votes. In the state with the metropolis of Philadelphia, many mail-order votes had to be counted. Here officials had indicated that reliable figures might not be available until Thursday or Friday.

  • In Nevada Biden had already led as expected after evaluating more than 85 percent of the vote. Absentee votes should also go in your direction. The state has six electoral votes and could mean the decision on the future president of the United States. More recently, the Nevada Home Office announced that it would release more figures Wednesday night. But it was unclear if the new numbers would be enough for the media to declare a winner that night. In Nevada, votes received through November 10, but no more than Tuesday’s Election Day postmark, are also valid.

Can Trump Still Convert Arizona?

The state Arizona it will also be exciting again. The US broadcaster and the AP Biden news agency had already won there. As of Wednesday afternoon (local time), about 600,000 votes were still pending in Arizona. At first there were no signs of the entire race turning around. Maricopa County had announced more numbers with the Phoenix metropolis for 7:00 p.m. Trump’s team now expects a bigger mistake in Arizona.

If he still changes the state and wins in Pennsylvania and Georgia, Trump would win the majority and could secure a second term. Otherwise, he would be the first president after George HW Bush in 1992 to not be reelected.

Trump had already declared himself the winner on election night. Meanwhile, with his remarks about alleged election fraud, he and his team are fueling concerns about a protracted legal battle that could plunge the United States into a constitutional crisis.
