According to the police, a total of around 1,100 people protested against the state corona measures in Hannover on Saturday. About 900 participants attended the final rally at Georgsplatz. They regretted what they saw as inappropriate interference with fundamental rights and the arbitrariness of the state. There were occasional fights and provocations with the approximately 700 counter-protesters. In general, the protests and counter-demonstrations remained peaceful, according to the police.

However, the train of skeptics for the crown had to stop in the middle: the organizer asked the participants to keep the minimum distance and to cover their mouth and nose. The Hannover Administrative Court had previously rejected an urgent request from Corona’s opponents. There is an epidemic situation of national scope, therefore the conditions are proportionate, so the court. All participants would have to wear mouth and nose protection; they must also maintain a minimum distance of one and a half meters to the speakers of five meters.

Several hundred counter-protesters

In their speeches, the counter-protesters criticized conspiracy theorists, among other things, and called on society to address the real issues of the crown pandemic. Most of the participants here wore a mask. In the protests, the police had about 200 participants from the Youth of the Left and about 450 people at the rally “Stand up against racism”.

He speaks of a “fake pandemic”

A speaker from Corona skeptics spoke of a “phony pandemic” at the start of the protests. “They take away our human rights,” he said, referring to the federal government. A private initiative had registered the protest. Originally it was expected with many more participants. Opponents of Corona’s requirements displayed signs with slogans such as “Fear eats the brain” or “Meanwhile, there are more stupid people in Corona than have died.” Some protesters also tried to distance themselves from right-wing extremists, shouting “Nazis out!”

After the incidents in Berlin, the police protected the state parliament in Hannover on Saturday.

Police on the spot with large number

At a similar demonstration in Berlin two weeks ago, right-wing extremists and citizens of the Reich tried storm the Reichstag building. A large number of policemen were on the scene in Hannover on Saturday: about a dozen police cars were parked in front of the state parliament, 15 officials were standing right outside the door of the parliament building. Police were also present at other locations in the state capital, including a cavalry team and a helicopter, as well as water cannons.
