A recently discovered FCC listing suggests T-Mobile may be developing a media transmitter with Android TV as part of its TVision home television service. While the list focuses on remote control of the device, there is still a decent amount of information to collect.
First, the list indicates that the device was initially shipped to the FCC in January with a request to keep certain aspects, such as photos and the user manual, confidential for a period of 180 days. According to the filing date of January 16, that period ended earlier this week, and we now have clear images of a remote control with the TVision brand. Elsewhere on the device, you can see hotkeys for Netflix and YouTube, as well as dedicated controls for a guide and DVR. Meanwhile, the internal photos show an on-board Bluetooth antenna.
You can also spot a highlighted Google Assistant button located just below a standard directional panel. The mentions of an Android home button in the listed product manual further cement the device’s likely Android TV roots.
T-Mobile bills its TVision services as an alternative to cable, with more than 154 channels and 400 hours of DVR space. There’s still a lot to do right now, including the release date, price, and actual look of the streaming device, but it seems pretty clear that the Uncarrier is gearing up to offer an internal streaming option in the future.
