With a PS5 Pro inevitable, what PS5 updates should I have?

With the way the last generation of consoles developed, it seems inevitable that in a few years we will go through that cycle again. As PS4 and Xbox One gave birth to PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, we will almost certainly get PS5 Pro and Xbox Series as well, huh? I do not know.

While yes it’s true that a lot of people can’t even get a regular PS5 right now, I wanted to talk about this today anyway because hey it’s still holidays and no real video game news. Here we are.

Here are the five upgrades I’d like to see from PS5 to PS5 Pro, when the time comes.

1. Power beats Series X

This one is almost too obvious to really explore that much, but the main point of these types of console updates is to increase the power as much as possible. Here, actually, it wouldn’t be just about skipping Series X, but also trying to guess where Microsoft would land with Series Y, and trying to get past that. Sony lost this battle with the Pro against the One X in terms of power (not that it hurt sales), and I suppose they’d like to avoid repeating that if possible.

2. Eliminating the “copy” phase once and for all

Regardless of the hardware changes that are made, I hope that, as promised above, the PS5 Pro will finally eliminate the copy phase that affects it. Of course, yes, it is much shorter if you make it for PS5 games, but it still exists. And for PS4 games on PS5, it’s still there and slow, and Xbox doesn’t have to deal with 5-30 minute copy phases for patches, which is a huge bonus.

3. Steal quick resume from Xbox

One feature of Xbox Series X that I really liked, both on PS5 and PC, is how it uses a quick summary to allow you to suspend multiple game states for long periods of time and freely switch between them. For games that aren’t online, especially like Valhalla, Immortals, and Cyberpunk, this has been especially helpful, and I hope PS5 will see and copy it, especially given Sony’s focus on offline single-player games.

4. Redesign of the user interface

Of course, you don’t need to do a UI redesign at the same time as your new hardware, but I can’t think of a better time to release a major revision. Choose how you want to redesign it, but I want to remove the “Explore” tab that always makes my PS5 open with a giant full page ad for something, and it would redo the entire bottom bar system, which I do not like in the interface PS4 user name.

5. Controller health issues

This could be on the hardware side as well, but I’m concerned about the nuances of the PS5 DualSense running at another time (we’re already hearing reports of delicate triggers breaking), and secondly, I found that the controller battery lasts / Loading onto the PS5 is still a poor process overall, and I hope more progress will be made in that area.

Cousin: 1440 monitor stand, for our poor brethren with those unsupported displays.

Bonus 2: More storage, at least 2 TB on the SSD.

Bonus 3: It should be black. Obviously.

Those are my main additions that I would like to see. Power is obviously the most important thing, but I think there are more changes that can be made beyond that. What would you add?
