Ethiopia: Ethio Telecom launches 4G service in Northwest Ethiopia

BAHIR DAR – The state operator Ethio Telecom yesterday launched its advanced 4G LTE service in its northwest region in cities such as Bahir Dar, Debre Markos, Finote Selam, Bure, Dangila, Injibara and Chagni.

In her comment at the launch ceremony held in the city of Bahir Dar in Amhara state, Ethio’s executive director of telecommunications, Frehiwot Tamru, said that the expansion of LTE is based on areas where high traffic of mobile data and service demand.

Noting Ethio Telecom’s 127-year public service under various names and structures, the CEO noted that the operator has been formulating a three-year strategic plan with a view to modernizing services and improving the customer experience.

“In the coming months, we will launch similar advanced LTE services in other parts of the country and they are already preparing for it.”

Given the reliability, high bandwidth and high speed features, advanced LTE services will enable and empower Ethio’s telecom customers to digitize their services, increase productivity and enhance their experiences, it was stated.

Ethio Telecom also asked the ecosystem players to capitalize on the advanced service and provide useful content and affordable phones, thus contributing to the construction of the digital economy in the country.

In the related development, Frehiwot stated that the operator has been working to allow the country to join the countries of the world with 5G internet service by 2022.

It should be remembered that the company launched the advanced 4G LTE service in the southeast region, including Adama and Bishoftu, last February.
