Google-owned Waze just announced a host of important new features for iPhone and Android users at the company’s first major virtual event called Waze On.
The first point to note is the support for travel suggestions, which means that with this update, Waze will be able to examine historical data and determine driving patterns. Using them, the application would try to guess where you are going, thus offering a route and traffic information in advance.
This feature, launching next month, will work in a similar way to the way Waze currently offers suggestions for your favorite locations you use the most. For example, the app can already show the route to your home or office if you drive to these locations at the same times every day, so Travel Tips are an evolution of these capabilities with a modern approach.
Waze has also officially announced Lane Guidance, a feature that launched earlier this year and is now available on iPhone and Android. Inspired by its brother on Google Maps, Lane Guidance looks at your route and provides a visual indicator to recommend which lane to use for your next turn.
Traffic notifications are also getting better with this update, so Waze will be able to display notifications for both frequent destinations and planned trips. In other words, if you use Waze every time you drive, the app should be able to learn all the patterns and then provide you with traffic data when you are about to leave without even touching your mobile phone.
Waze says it has also refined its ETA estimation engine to be more accurate during these times when people don’t drive as much as they did before the global health problem.
Google Assistant is now available in French, Spanish and Portuguese directly within Waze, while the music player has also been updated with support for Amazon Music.
No information about Waze’s arrival has been provided to the CarPlay dashboard.
