The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a new state standard of secondary education, which will come into force in 2022. The decision was made at today’s session of the government.

The approved state standard identified 11 core competencies that children should learn in school:

fluency in the state language; ability to communicate in foreign languages; mathematical and technological competence; innovation and openness to new ideas; entrepreneurship and financial education; ability to learn throughout life, etc..

The aforementioned standard also defines the requirements for learning outcomes in nine educational areas:

culture and literature; mathematics; nature; technologies; Computer’s science; social and health care; society and history; Artistic culture; physical education.

As we previously reported, according to Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the Ukrainian government has no intention of introducing any changes to the education law to please other countries.

“As Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, I should act in accordance with the legal framework in force in my country. When the law was passed, the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe offered a series of corrections. Ukraine submitted changes to the law and complied to the recommendations of the Venice Commission. We have no plans to change the law again, to meet the demands of certain countries. “ the official said.
