Twitter allows employees to work from home ‘forever’

As many companies are seeing the benefits of working from home even in the long term once lockout restrictions are lifted, Twitter became one of the first major tech firms to say it will give employees the option to work from home. “forever”.
Here is the full text of a statement from the company posted on its blog, written by Jennifer Christie, vice president, Twitter people.
Twitter was one of the first companies to go to a work-from-home model versus COVID-19, but we do not anticipate being one of the first to return to offices.

We were in a unique position to respond quickly and enable people to work from home given our emphasis on decentralization and support for a distributed workforce capable of working from anywhere. The past few months have shown that we can make that work. So if our employees have a role and a situation that allows them to work from home and want to continue doing so forever, we will make that happen. If not, our offices will be warm and welcoming, with some additional precautions, when we consider it safe to return.
This is how we are thinking in the coming months:
The opening of offices will be our decision, when and if our employees return, it will be yours.

• With very few exceptions, the offices will not open before September. When we decide to open offices, it will never be the same again. It will be careful, intentional, office by office, and gradual.
• There will also be no business travel before September, with very few exceptions, and there will be no in-person company events for the rest of 2020. We will evaluate 2,021 events later this year.
• We are proud of the first steps we take to protect the health of our employees and our communities. That will remain our top priority as we work with the unknowns in the months ahead.
