Halo: Master Chief Collection developer 343 Industries has commented that the sci-fi shooter collection could be heading to “a place and a way to play” soon.
Interestingly, the clue was secreted in the last Halo landmark (thanks, VG24 / 7), in the middle of a broader discussion about upcoming flights, the term given to the public and closed tests, which promised that the team had “quite a bit of new content [it is] looking to reach your hands, but [it is] deciding what is the appropriate amount and we are still waiting to see what progress is made in the coming weeks.
However, at the bottom of the Flighting Future section, where the team details upcoming changes, such as FOV slider support, additional keybindings, customizable controls, and mouse and keyboard support for consoles, the final point was advanced: “and perhaps a new place and way of playing.”
Sadly, we didn’t get any more information on what that could be, but, as you can imagine, it’s certainly got Halo fans flipping into the collective tongue, with speculations ranging from an unlikely PS5 port, a switch to Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia, or, perhaps more plausibly, the Epic Games Store, or Microsoft’s own streaming service, xCloud.
ICYMI, the Halo Infinite development team has revealed that all of the game’s “sandbox content” for launch is already in the game and is played daily.
A recent post also shared on the Halo Waypoint blog highlighted the work the Halo Infinite sandbox team is doing around vehicles, weapons, abilities, and more. Lead sandbox designer Quinn DelHoyo reveals that “all of our launch content is in-game and played daily.”
“The sandbox in the game refers to all the vehicles, equipment, weapons and objects that the player will interact with,” explained the designer. “The sandbox also includes all the spawn systems and ‘verbs’ like jump, run, health values, shield recharge times, etc.”
Halo Infinite is currently scheduled to launch in sometime in fall / third quarter 2021 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series XY Xbox Series S. The sequel saw a developmental leadership shift towards the end of last year, with ex-Bungie veterans of the original Halo trilogy be recruited to take the game to the finish line.
Here are all new games of 2021 (and beyond).
