President Tokayev sends his condolences to Turkey on the Izmir earthquake

NUR-SULTAN – Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his condolences to the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for a powerful earthquake that struck Turkey’s Aegean coast on October 30, reported Akorda press service.

At least 91 people were killed in a 6.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Izmir, Turkey’s third-largest city, and the Aegean Sea. Rescue efforts continue to find survivors.

The earthquake damaged at least 58 buildings and injured about 1,000 people. Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said Sunday that it was still difficult to provide estimates of how many people could remain under the rubble.

In a telegram, Tokayev said he was deeply saddened to learn of the deaths and injuries caused by the quake.

“On behalf of the people of Kazakhstan and on my own behalf, I express our condolences to you and to the families who lost loved ones in this natural disaster. May allah rest your souls in peace and grant your mercy about them. I wish all the victims to reconnect with their loved ones very soon, ”said Tokayev.

He said that Kazakhstan is ready to provide any necessary assistance to the Turkish people.

Kazakhstan’s first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, known for having a cordial relationship with the Turkish president, also sent a telegram expressing his condolences for the earthquake.

“Sharing the bitterness of the loss, I express my condolences to the families and friends of the victims and to the people of Turkey. I wish a speedy recovery to the victims and I believe that the brother Turkish people will overcome these difficulties, ”Nazarbayev said in the telegram.
