Dr. AT: This is an excellent example of business collaboration and South-South cooperation. As representative organizations, both AHF and NATHEALTH host a number of non-state actors in the health sector; This creates fertile ground for strong collaboration and the promotion of local solutions. Currently, the key areas that AHF and NATHEALTH will jointly focus on are medical tourism; capacity building and skills transfer; infrastructure for hospitals and diagnostics; and R&D and artificial intelligence (AI)
What would be the role of government, the private sector and development agencies in this collaboration while participating in the Summit? How would the different elements be sewn?
Dr. AT: The health challenges we have faced over the last decade, and recently Covid-19, have amplified the need to strengthen the public-private partnership in healthcare. To achieve universal health coverage, government institutions and development organizations recognize the need to work together. This Summit provides the platform for frank conversation.
What will be the fastest results after the Summit? How does the IAHS promise to be different and not just be a unique congregation of industry experts and leaders?
DR AT: This Summit is the first of many to come and we will continue the conversations that we began on December 12 through 2021 through our joint working groups and regular meetings. Right away, we hope to address Covid-19 by managing the supply chain and exporting vaccines, once they are available.
