More than 70% of Americans say they will get vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus as interest in vaccines to fight the virus increases across the United States, according to a new analysis.
A survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that 71% of the American public say they will “definitely or probably” get vaccinated, and that’s an increase from 63% in September. The growing enthusiasm for receiving the vaccine comes as the first injections by Pfizer and BioNTech obtained emergency use authorizations from the US Food and Drug Administration last week and are being given to workers in health this week across the country.

About a third of the public, or 34%, consider themselves the most enthusiastic about wanting the vaccine and consider themselves the “as soon as possible” group, Kaiser said. The majority in this group are seniors, white adults, and people with college degrees who are made up primarily of Democrats.
Meanwhile, Republicans and black Americans are the predominant groups among the 27% of the public most hesitant to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, the Kaiser data showed. But some of the doubts may be because they aren’t in the first round to get the vaccine, which goes first to healthcare workers and the elderly in long-term care facilities, the Kaiser analysis shows.
“Many of the doubters are in wait-and-see mode, and their concerns include concerns about side effects and whether the vaccine can cause Covid-19, which may dissipate as people gain more information and watch the vaccine take off. successfully introduced to people they know, ”said Kaiser Family Foundation President and CEO Drew Altman.
Some analysts think the drive to get a vaccine will only increase as the first few Americans are vaccinated and show few, if any, side effects. Additional Covid-19 vaccines are also being prepared and Moderna is likely to obtain emergency use authorization for its vaccine in the next week with vaccines developed by Johnson & Johnson and other companies to launch starting in March, Dr. Anthony Fauci said last week.
The release of the Kaiser survey results on Tuesday is the first of a new initiative the organization is launching to track “public opinions and experiences” with Covid-19 vaccines as they become available. See the full results of the survey here.
