The following are updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
DOHA – Qatar’s Ministry of Health announced 614 new COVID-19 infections on Saturday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 177,135, Qatar’s official News Agency (QNA) reported.
Meanwhile, 382 more recovered from the virus, bringing overall recoveries to 162,555, while deaths rose by two to 284, according to a ministry statement cited by QNA.
DHAKA – Bangladesh on Saturday recorded its highest number of daily deaths from COVID-19 since December last year.
The General Directorate of Health Services (DGHS) reported 39 new deaths, the highest daily deaths since December 15, and 3,674 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total count to 591,806 and the death toll to 8,869. .
ADDIS ABABA – The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa reached 4,166,555 as of Saturday noon, the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Africa) said.
Africa’s CDC, the African Union (AU) specialized health care agency, said the death toll from the pandemic amounted to 111,540, while 3,734,641 patients across the continent have recovered from the disease.
KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia reported 1,199 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Saturday, bringing the national total to 340,642.
Health Ministry Director General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press release that five of the new cases are imported and 1,194 are local broadcasts.
Two more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 1,251.
