The Florida Department of Health reported more than 4,000 new positive cases of coronavirus on Saturday, the highest total of new cases in a single day since late August.
Saturday’s 4,004 new cases brought the total number of cases in Florida to 752,481. The last time the state reported more cases in a single day was on August 22. Last weekend, the state reported more cases on Sunday, but it was a cumulative report of the results received on both Saturday and Sunday.
The number of new cases reported Saturday in the Tampa Bay region (957) was also the first time since August 15 that the total number of new cases in the area exceeded 900. The number of local positive tests only exceeded 800 once since September. .one.
Of the 73,219 results reported statewide on Saturday, 5.21% of tests in people who were screened for infection for the first time were positive. This is the third time in a week and the fourth time in two weeks that the positivity rate was greater than 5%.
Another 113 people have died from complications related to the coronavirus, the department reported Saturday. That included 22 people who lost their lives in the Tampa Bay region. As of Saturday, 15,917 people in Florida related to the virus. The deaths recorded on Saturday may have occurred days or weeks before.
