HONG KONG, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) – Asia-Pacific countries remained on high alert on Sunday, as India recorded 92,605 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 5,400,619.
The number of confirmed cases in India on Sunday morning rose to 5,400,619, India’s federal Ministry of Health said.
During the past 24 hours, 1,133 deaths were also recorded, bringing the death toll to 86,752.
The number of confirmed cases in the Philippines rose to 286,743 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 3,311 new cases daily.
The DOH said the number of recoveries also rose to 229,865 after 20,021 more patients survived the disease.
The DOH added that 55 more patients have succumbed to the viral disease, bringing the death toll to 4,984.
In Indonesia, total cases increased by 3,989 in one day to 244,676, and the death toll rose by 105 to 9,553, the Health Ministry said.
According to the ministry, 2,977 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 177,327.
Bangladesh reported 1,544 new cases and 26 new deaths, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 348,916 and the total number of deaths to 4,939, the General Directorate of Health Services (DGHS) said.
Official data showed that 11,591 samples were analyzed in the last 24 hours in Bangladesh.
The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 256,565, including 2,179 new recoveries on Sunday, the DGHS said.
Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Japan rose by 480 to reach 79,260 on Sunday night, according to the latest figures from the Health Ministry and local authorities.
The figure excludes 712 cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship that was quarantined in Yokohama near Tokyo earlier this year.
The death toll in Japan from the virus that causes pneumonia currently stands at 1,520, with four new deaths announced on Sunday. The death toll includes 13 from the Diamond Princess cruise ship.
Myanmar reported 393 more new confirmed cases, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health and Sports.
The new confirmed cases brought the number of COVID-19 infection cases in the country to 5,263 in total.
South Korea reported 82 more COVID-19 cases as of midnight Saturday compared to 24 hours ago, bringing the total number of infections to 22,975, health authorities announced Sunday.
Of the new cases, 28 were residents of Seoul and 24 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.
Ten were imported from abroad, bringing the combined figure to 3,077.
