(MENAFN) On Friday, January 1, the president of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, urged the African continent to ensure the economic reactivation of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic at the beginning of the New Year.

The president of the 55-member pan-African bloc stated in a report: “As we mark the end of the year 2020, we also mark the end of one of the most extraordinary and challenging years in living memory.”

“The challenging task of protecting our health and livelihoods, while ensuring the recovery of our economies, still lies ahead as we begin a new year,” Mahamat warned.

Mahamat noted that the AU’s continental response plan, as part of the bloc’s ambition to assist member states with surveillance, response and recovery from public health emergencies, was started early and quickly by the Africa Centers. for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Africa).
