Within the first hours of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you will gain access to the huge skill tree for the first time. But the menu you spend those points on is shrouded in mist, hiding most of the stuff until you get further down a particular path.
In this Assassin’s Creed Valhalla guide, we will show you how to get skill points and all the skills you can unlock.
All abilities
In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you don’t level up like in a traditional RPG. Instead, you’ll get two skill points every time you hit an XP threshold.
When you bring those skill points to the skill menu, you’ll start at a central point. Then you can spend your skill points to branch out into numerous themed constellations after three playstyles: melee, ranged, and stealth. As you invest skill points in statistical nodes (the little ones) and main skills (the big ones), you will raise your Power, which will help you determine when you are ready to enter a difficult area or fight a big boss. You can see Eivor’s Power level at the bottom center of the Skills menu.
As you progress towards each of the constellations, you will see a main ability surrounded by a bunch of smaller stat nodes. These help improve Eivor’s fighting abilities with bonuses like increased resistance to status effects like poison, as well as improvements to health, stealth, and ranged attacks. You’ll end up with a variety of these stat nodes as your Power increases, but they’re not worth focusing on. The real prize here are the named perks: Assassin’s Creed ValhallaMain Abilities.
Because the game covers constellations that you haven’t unlocked yet, it’s hard to tell where you are going or where you are going. We have listed all the skills and their descriptions below. Check our maps to see the path to each one.
Melee skills
Melee skills are all north. You can get some powerful tools here like Adrenaline Fiend and Stomp.
- Stomp very hard. When an enemy falls to the ground, press R3 to stomp their face.
- Dual shift. When using two weapons, hold R2 + R3 to change hands.
- Perfect attack. Press R1 again during a weapon hit to deal more damage on the next hit.
- Parry Damage. Successful parries also deal damage to the attacker.
- Adrenaline demon. When one or more adrenaline slots are full, he gains a damage boost and an attack speed boost. This effect increases with each space occupied.
- Volley arrow. Unload all charged arrows at once by holding and releasing R1 with a light bow. Each bolt of arrows has a stamina cost.
- Takedown of warriors. Try to take down an unsuspecting enemy with your melee weapon. It will alert all enemies around you, but it will fill your adrenaline for all, one of them.
- Sprint bash. Unlock the ability to hit breakable objects and push NPCs to the ground while sprinting.
- Adrenaline boost. +1 adrenaline space
- Berserker’s Courage. Fight with reckless abandon. A partially filled adrenaline bar will not be affected by an enemy’s first hit.
- Light Bow Combo. Consecutive shots with a light bow deal bonus damage.
- Cremation of the battlefield. Enemies that perish from one of your fire attacks will continue to burn, dealing fire damage to nearby enemies.
- Terror. After a stun finish, nearby enemies may cower in fear.
- Heavy double grip. You can wield two weapons with heavy weapons. This will alter the stats and handling of each weapon.
Stealth abilities
The stealth skill is in the lower left of the skill tree. Here you can pick up some really powerful tools like B Breakfastall, Advanced Assassination, and Chain Assassination.
- Back stab. Landing a blow directly to the back of an enemy will deal increased defense damage and will cause them to stagger.
- Brush with death. Dodging just before an attack lands grants you heightened senses, making others around you appear to move slower for a while.
- Guided arrow. Your mastery with the Predator Bow allows you to perform incredible feats of precision. Press R1 to adjust the path of the arrow while flying.
- Advanced assassination. Unlock the ability to assassinate high-level targets with a time-based attack.
- Predatory Bow Combo. Consecutive headshots with a predatory bow deal bonus damage.
- Counter roll. Dodge into an enemy’s Rune Attack just before it lands to jump directly behind them.
- Explosive corpse. Booby traps on a corpse to damage anyone who investigates it. Hold R3 near a corpse to load it with explosive powder.
- Miasma. Enemies killed by one of your poison attacks will release a toxic cloud around them, infecting those who enter.
- Adrenaline boost. +1 adrenaline space
- Chain murder. After a successful kill, throw an ax at a second NPC in close proximity.
- Killer’s Cantrip. After a successful parry, quickly press Triangle to drop a smoke bomb at your feet and disappear.
- Car booty. Loot an enemy automatically after a melee kill or stealth takedown.
- Breakfast. Eivor automatically performs a cartwheel when landing from a dangerous height, reducing the amount of damage taken.
- Missile inversion. Send it back to them. Catch and return virtually any projectile to its sender by pressing L1 just before it hits you.
Ranged skills
Ranged constellations are in the lower right of the skill tree. Here you can acquire good skills like Emergency Aim and Grit.
- Arc stun finisher. Press R3 when targeting the head of a stunned enemy to trigger a bow stun finish.
- Emergency target. Holding L2 will target the enemy when they detect you, giving you a chance to kill them and go undetected.
- Bow down to melee bond. Alternating bow and melee attacks deals bonus damage for a short time.
- Sprint Attack. Press R1 while running to do a speed attack.
- Hunter Bow Combo. Release the arrow when you’re done drawing it to make the next one draw faster.
- Arrow reinforcement. With this ability, loose arrows will never break and can be picked up from downed enemies.
- Stealth adrenaline. While in stealth, gain adrenaline by looting a chest or stealing in a restricted area.
- Stealth recognition. Automatically highlight enemies when they are crouched and undetected.
- Battlefield bolt. Press Triangle to pick up the closest discarded weapon and automatically throw it at the enemy in sight.
- Shot charged. Shoot two fully charged arrows by pressing R1 with the Hunter Bow. This attack cannot be canceled.
- Sand. Recover the “red portion” of your health bar by landing successful melee hits on enemies.
- Last Chance Healing. When your health reaches a critical conflict state, everything around you will seem to slow down, giving you time to heal or flee.
- Adrenaline boost. +1 adrenaline space
