Shortly after the release of iOS 14 and watchOS 7, many users had problems with their iPhone and Apple Watch.
Various online support threads, including our own GPS data found, were not properly logged during activities. The problem appeared to affect all Apple watch models.
In most cases, users record a workout on their watch while leaving their iPhone at home, but when they then look at the Activity app, it only shows the starting point of the workout on the GPS map, and nothing else.
Also, some users have reported excessive battery consumption of their Apple Watch, iPhone or both with iOS 14 and watchOS 7. In the support threads, the unofficial solution seemed to unlink and restore your Apple Watch. Jack taylor from our forums reported that they solved both issues with this method:
Both GPS and serious battery drain issues in watchOS 7 were fixed by simply pairing and re-pairing my watch. Both problems were resolved immediately afterwards, as noted in many of the support groups.
It seems that Apple has adopted this advice as the official solution to this problem. In a recently released support document titled If you are missing training GPS tracks or health data after updating to iOS 14 and watchOS 7, Apple writes that users may see the following issues after updating to iOS 14 and watchOS 7:

- Workout route maps are missing from Fitness app on iPhone for GPS pre-workouts from your Apple Watch.
- Activity, heart rate, or other health-related apps won’t start or load data on your Apple Watch.
- The Fitness app or the Health app cannot start or upload data to your iPhone.
- Health or Fitness app reports inaccurate amount of data storage on your iPhone.
- The Activity app reports an inaccurate amount of data storage on your Apple Watch.
- Ambient sound level data or Apple Watch headphone audio level data is not found in the Health app on iPhone.
- Higher battery consumption on your iPhone or Apple Watch.
If you experience two or more of these symptoms, Apple suggests unpairing your Apple Watch, backing up your iPhone and Apple Watch, wiping both devices, and restoring from the backup. Apple provides the steps to perform these tasks in its support document that was released today.
