ADDIS ABABA, May 14 (Xinhua) – Chinese medical experts are helping African countries control the COVID-19 outbreak, the African Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC of Africa) said on Thursday.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, John Nkengasong, director of CDC Africa, said that medical experts from 32 African countries recently held a webinar with their Chinese counterparts on how to better manage the COVID-19 outbreak on the continent.
“We recently held a special webinar involving 32 member states of the African Union (AU) with Chinese experts to discuss case management of patients with COVID-19 in Wuhan and traditional Chinese medicine as an alternative treatment to COVID-19. Nkengasong said.
“Last week, Africa CDC held the ninth weekly clinical community of practice seminar that involved 312 active participants to discuss current treatment approaches for COVID-19,” said Nkengasong.
There are about 1,000 Chinese medical experts working in Africa for the long term, according to the China National Health Commission.
For decades, Chinese medical teams in Africa have established a strong reputation for applying traditional Chinese medicine therapy to treat diseases, many of which are chronic and difficult.
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the African continent, Chinese anti-pandemic medical experts dispatched by the Chinese government have greatly helped Africa deal with the pandemic.
In recent statements to journalists, Benjamin Djoudalbaye, chief of division policy, health diplomacy and communications in Africa CDC, said that Chinese assistance to Africa in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic has been crucial in containing the danger it represents the illness.
“China’s successful COVID-19 experience has inspired us,” said Djoudalbaye.
“China, in conjunction with the Jack Ma Foundation, has organized webinars for African medical professionals on how to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic in various settings, including in emergencies, as well as sharing experiences on field medical treatment and treatment of the Intensive Care Unit “. Djoudalbaye said.
Djoudalbaye also said that the Chinese government and the Jack Ma Foundation have facilitated webinars on the prevention and control of COVID-19 outbreaks.
Africa CDC is also launching mobile healthcare platforms, and major development partners like China are expected to assist in the development of the platform.
Development partners like China are expected to increase the capacity of CDC’s African mobile health platforms through knowledge sharing and training of African health workers.
Djoudalbaye praised the donation of COVID-19 medical supplies by China and the Jack Ma Foundation, including through the provision of personal protective equipment, masks, gloves, and test kits.
In April, CDC Africa received several rounds of medical equipment and supplies donated by the China Jack Ma Foundation and the Alibaba Foundation in support of the African continent’s fight against the spread of COVID-19.
The African CDC in its latest status update revealed that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Africa reached 73,176 on Thursday night. Meanwhile, the death toll from the current COVID-19 pandemic on the African continent reached 2,496. Final product
